History and Location

Richmond Hill is known for its connection with industrialist Henry Ford. Richmond Hill, formerly known as Ways Station, was used as a winter home by ford. He also built the complex known as Ford Farms along the Ogeechee River in the 1930’s. Eventually the area was renamed to The Ford Plantation, where there are several beautiful historic homes. On March 3, 1962 is when Richmond Hill was established as a city. It remained a quiet, rural area built along both sides of Highway 17 until rapid suburban growth from nearby Savannah began in the 1980’s.
