Wilmington, Talahi, and Whitemarsh Island are located east of Savannah between Thunderbolt and the beach community of Tybee Island. The communities of the islands form a large and affluent suburb of Savannah. The islands form a warm and welcoming environment. Living on the islands is extremely convenient because it is not far from the beach and the downtown area. The islands provide a great public school system, or you have the decision to enroll your children in private schools. If you like sunny weather and the coastal areas this is definitely the place to be.
The most popular restaurants within the area are Molly McGuire’s, Flying Fish, and Current. These places will give you a great seafood experience. Molly’s provides not only great seafood, but several different things and the restaurant has a great environment. The outside eating here is the best and once a month they have a band play outside. A good place to grab lunch is Papa’s Barbeque and Seafood and they serve some of the best southern-style dishes. If you are looking for some good sushi, the best place is Kobe. They are the best Japanese restaurant located on Wilmington Island.
Shopping and Attractions:
With living on the islands it takes about 20 minutes to get to Broughton Street, where you can visit various stores and restaurants. A day spent on Broughton is a day well spent. There is Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, Vineyard Vine, H&M, along while several others. While spending a day on Broughton you get to encounter the tourists and the variety of things Savannah has to offer. The islands are also almost 30 minutes from the Oglethorpe Mall where you can experience Belk, JCPenny, Macy’s, along with numerous other stores. You can enjoy lunch at the food court while spending the day at the mall.
History and Homes:
The islands have a population around 15,000 and the homes within this area are beautiful. Within this area there are many coastal homes along the waters of Savannah. The area is surrounded by Richardson Creek, Turner Creek, and the Wilmington River , which are all tidal water bodies. The island expressway runs straight through to Whitemarsh Island, which provides additional access to Wilmington Island and Talahi Island.
